Over the upcoming months, our incredible tombola team are participating in various events to raise awareness of Breast Cancer Now. From coastal walks to climbing mountains, the team are showing some incredible commitment. Here’s a look at the highlights from the Northumberland Coastal Walk.
Northumberland Coastal Walk:
On the 22nd May, 28 members of the tombola team took on the 13km Northumberland Coastal Walk, from Alnmouth to Craster. They raised £11,674 for the charity.
We caught up with Dan Coggin and Karen Roberts from the marketing team to hear more about what inspired them to get involved:
What inspired you to take part in the fundraising?
“I feel like breast cancer impacts so many lives, including my own family and friends. Taking part in the fundraising efforts has given me a way to show my support, raise awareness, and be part of a wider conversation about this important cause that Breast Cancer Now offers.”
“I was inspired to take part because I am in awe of the incredible work BCN do. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and the leading cause of death for women under 50. BCN provide life changing care and support to anyone affected by breast cancer, and I jumped at the chance to offer my support. Plus the Northumberland Coast is my favourite place to visit in the UK!"
Were there any memorable moments/highlights?
“What stood out to me during the walk was hearing other people’s personal stories about their connection to breast cancer when on the walk. Everyone had their own reason for taking part and fundraising, and listening to those experiences was empowering. It reminded me of the importance of what we were doing and gave me the motivation to keep going, even when it got tough.”
“The BCN walk wasn't just a great day for the charity, but also a chance to engage with colleagues across the business that you don't spend time with day to day. We had fantastic weather and took in spectacular views along the way!"
Were there any challenges along the way?
“The first hill we walked up on the 13km walk was a challenge. I don’t think anyone expected it to be so steep, there were a few laughs (and groans), but reached the top made it feel so rewarding. That moment really brought everyone together and set the tone for the rest of the walk.”
“That first hill was a little unexpected, and upped the temptation to run back to my car and go home - but we made it and the views at the top were worth it!”
