8 Simple Lifestyle Swaps for a Healthier and Happier You.

20/10/25

Living a healthier lifestyle doesn’t have to mean overhauling your entire routine or spending hours at the gym. In fact, it’s often the little things we do daily that make the biggest difference. Here are some simple, realistic changes you can start today to boost your health and well-being.

Stay Hydrated

Your body loves water and it needs plenty of it to function at its best. Aim for 6–8 cups of water a day, and try making it your go-to drink instead of sugary sodas or endless cups of coffee. Keep a refillable bottle handy, and you’ll be surprised how much easier it is to stay on track.

Eat a Colourful Plate

The more colour on your plate, the better! Think leafy greens, bright peppers, juicy berries, and orange sweet potatoes. A “food colour palette” ensures you’re getting a variety of vitamins and nutrients while making meals look and taste more exciting.

Take the Stairs

Skip the lift or escalator when you can and choose the stairs. It’s a small swap that adds up to stronger muscles, better cardio health, and a nice little energy boost.

Move Daily

You don’t need an intense workout to stay active. Even a 10–20 minute walk can improve your mood, boost energy, and keep your body strong. If you can get outdoors for fresh air and sunshine, that’s an extra bonus.

Try a Standing Desk

If you spend hours working at a desk, sitting all day can impact your posture. A standing desk helps break up long sitting sessions, supports posture, and keeps your body engaged. Start small, even alternating between sitting and standing makes a difference.

Prioritise Sleep

Good sleep is the foundation of good health. Aim for 7–9 hours each night and try sticking to a regular bedtime routine. Switch off screens an hour before bed, dim the lights, and let your body wind down naturally.

Find Joy in Hobbies

Health isn’t just about diet and exercise, it’s about joy too. Take up a hobby you genuinely enjoy, whether it’s gardening, walking, dancing, or painting. If you love it, you’re more likely to stick with it, and it doubles as stress relief.

Your Mental Well-being

Life is busy, and stress is hard to avoid but how you manage it matters. Practising mindfulness or meditation (even just a few minutes a day) can help calm the mind, reduce stress, and improve focus.

Health doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. By making small, steady changes like drinking more water, taking the stairs, or carving out time for hobbies, you’ll gradually build habits that support a healthier, happier lifestyle.

As we continue our partnership with Breast Cancer Now, we’re reminded how important these simple daily choices are, not just for our own health, but for raising awareness of the small steps we can all take toward living well and supporting those affected by breast cancer.

How to Check: Just Remember TLC

There's no special way to check and you do not need any training.

Checking your breasts can be easy as TLC:

Touch your breasts: can you feel anything new or unusual?

Look for changes: does anything look different to you?

Check any new or unusual changes with a GP
